I really wish I could lose it.
It is getting real old and there are times when I wish I could just shut off the instinct to continue on.
I have repeatedly told myself that I cannot possibly know or see something that no one at Walmart knows. I have repeatedly told myself it will get better on its own.
I have often wanted to run away from what is driving me to find a way to get all of it somewhere that it will do some good.
I imagine it is a sense of failure that makes me want to quit and yet it makes me want to continue at the same time.
One day at a time and at least I know that I am clear of the imminent failure that will occur in the future if all of it continues as it is.
I feel really bad for Lee Scott and the rest of the corporate officers. They may have money at the end of it all but they will also have to live with the outcome and maybe someday explain how they could let money rule. I have no idea of how or when it will all come out, I do know that without change from what it is today that eventually even if the things that are really wrong never are brought out the company will suffer and eventually it will go the same way Kmart did only bigger and worse.
At least I know I have tried. At least I know that the original concept was a good one and that Sam Walton was a good person.
How I wish I could hate the company and all it stands for. I can’t. Even with all of the injustices and all the lies I know it was meant to be a good thing.
There is so much good and it is blocked out by the inability of the corporate officers to accept any responsibility for the problems.
The problems are of course varied, some are real, some are imagined, some, are rumors.
I just know that when you are doing what you believe is right you have to do your best to let it be known.
It is more than seven months since they terminated me, or told me I was terminated. Months later someone said that wasn’t the case I walked off the job. It didn’t happen that way.
It makes no difference now anyway, not to Walmart, not to any of the corporate officers.
It is a lie like all the rest and can be covered up.
Oh how I want to give up, wish I could.

Yes,

I had given up hope and had it renewed when Mr. Jackson called.
I knew, I was told not to expect him or anyone else to come through.

I imagine it is my inability to believe that although the stock has dropped a good sixteen dollars in just over six months that Walmart corporate would not want help reviving the stores, the associates and trust within the walls of the stores.

There are only so many times that trust can be lost before it is gone for good.

I thought Walmart Corporate was filled with well educated and hard working individuals that would look at the failures of the past and present and work to make them right. To change things for the better.

I thought any number of times I might be able to help and each time someone took a minute or two and contacted me with a response I thought was genuine it wasn't long before I was back to square one and looking at the entire situation alone.

Okay, I put myself into a position where Walmart associates directly contact me for advice on how to handle situations that they are living through at work. I really don't mind. I am glad when I can help them hold on to what they have and look at and live through it in a better way.

I guess it is an ego thing or it may be one of those situations where no one wants to admit that they failed.

I very well may fail because there are over six hundred concerns on my list, most of which I have already taken care of. Most of which validate what I have known for a long time.

Simple things and it shouldn't be that way I tell every one of the associates that I can only help in some ways. I can advise them on what they may try that won't result in termination.

I had such faith in Walmart that I was wrong and following company policy is not a guarantee they won't find a way to terminate you if someone wants you gone.
I know there is no real open door.

That is not bad if you know it. I did something wrong when I use to tell people the open door worked. It wasn't the open door. It was the people behind it at any given point and if they didn't like you the door would slam shut and it would result in termination.

At least in a few cases I know that I prevented some really great associates and salaried members of management from leaving the company and have done what I can to dispel the inaccuracies that are out there about the company.

I do know that corporate is fine on it's own. After all I am sure that if Walmart goes into bankruptcy once the stock falls further, and it will, the people who made enough while it was doing well will be okay. As far as the others. Oh well.

I have a very difficult time lying and a difficult time accepting propaganda on both sides.

Once again I see others are willing to invest time in helping the associates and they are not Walmart people.

Someday.

I will advise associates to contact their dm regional or corporate if I cannot find a way to resolve issues they bring to me until I find a better way.

THE INABILITY OF UNIONS TO ORGANIZE WORKERS STEMS FROM THE FEAR OF THE LOSS OF POSITIONS THAT ARE PAYING ASSOCIATES AT OR ABOVE THE LEVEL OF WAGES IN ANY ONE PARTICULAR AREA OF THE COUNTRY.

THE COMPANY IN THE PAST HAS AVAILED IT’S ASSOCIATES OF MANY BENEFITS THAT ARE NOT TRULY UNDERSTOOD AS BEING FAR BETTER THAN MOST.

ALTHOUGH BENEFITS SUCH AS HEALTH CARE IS AN IMPORTANT THING FOR MANY OF THE ASSOCIATES IT IS USUALLY NOT A DECIDING FACTOR IN RETENTION OF WORKERS.

WALMART HAS POSITIONED ITSELF IN MANY WAYS THAT, SETS IT APART FROM OTHER RETAILERS. BENEFITS ARE NOT AS MUCH OF AN ISSUE AS IS MORALE AND THE MANAGEMENT STYLE IN MANY STORES, DISTRICTS AND REGIONS.

COMMUNICATIONS ARE BREAKING DOWN FROM WITHIN THE STORES AND ARE SOLELY DEPENDENT ON THE LEADERSHIP IN INDIVIDUAL STORES.

THERE IS A PROBLEM IN CHOOSING MANAGEMENT THAT IS UNAFRAID OF CIRCUMSTANCES.
STORE MANAGERS ARE EVEN MORE FEARFUL OF THE UPPER RANKS AND THIS CAUSES MORALE ISSUES WHERE STORE MANAGERS AND SALARIED MANAGEMENT THAT HOPES TO PROMOTE CONTINUOUSLY HIDE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH PROGRAMS AND METHODS OF WORKING ON SOME INTERNAL PROBLEMS WITHOUT EVER MENTIONING THAT THEY ARE MALFUNCTIONING BECAUSE THE MANAGEMENT IS FEARFUL OF RETALIATION.

FLUFF IS RUNNING RAMPPED AT MANY LOCATIONS. COMMUNICATION OF PROBLEMS IS NOT FORTHRIGHT AND STORE MANAGERS LIE IF THE PROGRAMS OR METHODS ARE NOT WORKING.

DUE TO THE MANAGEMENT OF MANY STORES BY INCOMPETENT STORE MANAGERS AND DISTRICT MANAGERS WITH ASPIRATIONS OF PROMOTION AND ADVANCEMENT LEADING THE WAY INSTEAD OF REAL SITUATIONS AND THE EXPLAINATION AS TO WHY SOMETHING JUST ISN’T WORKING AS EXPECTED.

THE FEAR FACTOR HAS TAKEN HOLD AS IT TAKES MANY YEARS IN MOST CASES TO PROGRESS TO AN EXCEPTIONALLY WELL-PAID POSITION IN MANAGEMENT. THE SYSTEM ITSELF HAS TURNED MANY MANAGERS INTO OUT RIGHT LIARS IN ORDER TO COVER THE INABILITY TO IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS AND PROCEDURES THAT DO NOT WORK.

IN ALL REALITY, STORE MANAGERS, DISTRICT MANAGERS AND EVEN SOME REGIONALS WILL LIE ABOUT PROGRAMS OR ACCEPT LESS THAN WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO HIGHER UPS IN ORDER TO MAKE THEMSELVES IMMUNE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF IMMEDIATE ACCOUNTABILITY.

IT IS A PROBLEM FROM WITHING DISTRICTS AND INDIVIDUAL STORES. IT IS THE FEAR OF THE UPPER MANAGEMENT WHO HAVE ALL ALONG BASICALLY BEEN TOLD, MAKE IT WORK OR ELSE.

IN SOME STORES PROGRAMS WORK AND IN OTHER STORES THEY DON’T.
MANAGEMENT WILL LIE ABOUT ANYTHING THAT LOOKS WRONG AND IF THEY ARE BEING QUESTIONED, FLUFF WILL BE CREATED IN ORDER TO MAKE MUCH OF IT LOOK…AS IF THEY ARE FOLLOWING A PROGRAM WHEN THEY ARE NOT BECAUSE IN SOME SITUATIONS IT ISN’T WORKING.

INSTEAD OF FIXING PROBLEMS THEY ARE COVERED UP AND THE PEOPLE THAT KNOW THEY ARE COVERED UP ARE COHERSED INTO LYING FOR UPPER MANAGEMENT OR ARE PUT IN A SITUATION WHERE IT LOOKS AS IF THEY ARE INCOMPETENT.

THE CHANGES THAT WALMART HAS MADE TO SOME SYSTEMS AND PROGRAMS ARE PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE INITIAED IN SOME STORES AND MAY CAUSE DISASTERS IN OTHERS.

UPPER MANAGEMENT IS NOT USUALLY CONFIDENT THAT THE ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN WHERE A PROGRAM IS NOT WORKING WILL NOT BE LISTENED TO BUT WILL BE FORCED INTO A SITUATION WHERE IT WILL NOT WORK.

UPPER MANAGEMENT FABRICATES ANY NUMBER OF BOGUS CLAIMS AND CONTINUES TO COVER UP DAILY, WEEKLY AND MONTHLY REPORTS WITH THE ANSWERS THAT CORPORATE WANTS TO HEAR, DISREGUARDING ANY REAL ATTEMPT TO FIX OR DISCOUNT PROGRAMS THAT ARE NOT WORKING IN ANY ONE STORE. SOME STORES ARE NOT WORKING PROGRAMS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD TO AND LIE TO COVER.

ETHIC, MORALES AND THE PLAIN TRUTH IS LACKING ON THE HIGHEST LEVELS AT INDIVIDUAL STORES DUE TO THE INTERPRITATION THAT FAILURE IN ANY WAY IS TO RESULT IN DISMISSAL OR DEMOTION.

OPEN AVAILABILITY COMBINED WITH PART TIME EMPLOYMENT CAUSES A PROBLEM IN THE ABILITY TO HIRE ASSOCIATES WHO WILL BE DEPENDABLE AND ABLE TO BE RETAINED FOR AN UNDETERMINED LENGTH OF TIME.

Communication, will it change?

It is Sunday and after talking to some Walmart associates and making the attempt to lead them in the right direction I know that I am doing it for them. Still I wonder why I should do anything to help Walmart along the way.
Terminated, fired, resigned, walked off the job.
I have no idea of what any of it means except I do not get paid.
My family supports what I am doing and if communication was any more difficult there would be nothing I could do.
Every day emails, phone calls, messages, coffee, and more coffee.
I love being busy but wish I could just go back to working at a job that existed a long time ago. When it wasn't impossible to accept the status quo.
I wonder, will they do as they say or let it go again?

Yesterday, Saturday, and this morning Sunday, has made me realize that I may have to re arrange my meetings with others in order to show you some of the problems in the Baton Rouge area. Much of the upcoming week is broken between interviews and confirming travel plans.

Understand that associates are contacting me with information on any number of issues at many of the stores here in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. There is actually so much that I find I have had to put some other things aside in order to calm some of them down and tell many it will get better.

This is being written after a meeting with an associate coming off the night shift at one of the stores.

Yes, I open my door to local associates. Yes, I try to show them a plan that will help.

I do not know why I am doing it aside from the fact that you did contact me and I see a glimmer of hope. I also just cannot see myself putting anyone in the position I am in. No work at all, thank goodness I have a family that supports me.

I am being asked for communication information and advice on who may be able to help in some situations. Even salaried management does not want to take a chance of direct contact with anyone higher up. I am on the verge of contacting the district managers in the area. I no longer trust the Regional myself, I am fearful I could cause some wonderful people to lose their positions too soon, before they are ready to leave.

The "Fear Factor" still lives and not many are willing to ask for help, they would rather take a chance and look for jobs elsewhere.

I am concerned because I have been informed of CO managers and assistant managers who are looking at retirement and at quitting soon.

Associates and management are getting stretched to the limit and the stress levels are where most would rather be temporarily unemployed instead of finding work before leaving the company.

Some have already attempted to quit and were talked into staying at least for a while.
Dedicated assistant managers are looking at everything short term.

Pallets of freight from the GM side are being mixed and are being pushed to the floor with no organization whatsoever. They are not separating freight, just taking all of it off the truck as is and to the floor.

It has become chaotic and most of the middle management at the stores really is thinking of walking out.

I have heard of even management with over twenty years going into retirement earlier than they had intended. They would rather be paid less and be treated better.

Lawrence, this is not a joke and although I am happy that people trust me with situations that concern their livelihood I feel compelled to see if I can help them through this unrest.

Please do not forget me. The news is not good. This is serious and I don't even know that the convention will be able to help in a timely way. Although at this point anything is better than nothing.

Hurricane Katrina the best and worst

This hurricane has started something not new but something that is a part of everyone and hidden somewhere in the back of our heads.

Media frenzy on the people that are dead and dying. A new sensationalizm has turned into what again is something that Americans now see as entertainment.

Watch the loss, watch the misery. Talk about the pain and agony of those who can not do what others can.

Promote the story anyway you can and allow the media the ability to go on and on with a story as dark as death and a tragedy turned into a real time movie.

911/Katrina/Iraq anything that this desensitised country can watch.

Okay so I am unrealistic.

Send in more buses, vans, boats. Yes more. More copters and find a way to get a C5 to the airport and the people to the C5.

No time to waste for this continuing soap opera.

The City of Baton Rouge was a fairly quite city at night. It no longer is as the influx of people has crowded it and turned it into a city that is not sleeping easy.

There are people walking the streets and traveling the highway at 1am in a quantity that is now noticeable.

There are more people outside and more people doing things and of course with that, even if the law will not admit it an increase in unlawful activities.

This site is really quite good.
Presently I am still working on the book and sending out queries to agents and publishers.
There have been a number of leads and I am doing what I can to find out as much as I can.
I still have no real answer from corporate about my termination or as I was told, my walking off the job.
I have no idea of why I feel I shouldn't pry about it. I have sent another email to corporate to see if I can get answers...I may have to get an attorney to actually find out. Walmart causes alot of it's own problems.

Once again a union sits by idly while it's members strike and because there is fear and no longer any real kind of brotherhood, the NWA mechanics may lose not only a contract but all they were once given or possibly even there jobs.

I do believe The Walmart Addiction is worse than I originally thought it was.
Seriously, there is a huge portion of Walmart no one knows about. The cult, the culture and the corporate offices. The lies, the associates and "the necessary evil," as Sam Walton called it.
The seven years our family has worked for the company has brought to my attention so many things that it is difficult, to say the least, to write this book based on true experience and catch someone’s attention doing it.
There are many good things amongst the bad.
I could change it. Totally anti Walmart and the UFCW union was interested in that. The agent I had at that juncture said they would look at it and possibly pre order 50,000 copies. Using me as a speaker at rallys and meetings and the poster child for organizing a union at Walmart.
But the story would not be entirely real.
I am still in constant communication with Walmart Corporate Offices and it has become a true fight for me not to go back to work with them.
There are associates across the United States that are reading a rough draft version of the book. By request.
The feedback leads me to continue trying.
Walmart will not be unionized, partially because of what culture still exists and partially due to the fear factor associates feel. If the current trends at Walmart continue the dedicated associate base will leave or retire and what will be left will not sustain the profits the company needs to survive.

A journey through four states in numerous positions with Walmart, issues that rear their ugly heads from time to time as I progress from hourly associate to salaried management and beyond.
Working with, and assisting associates with problems in ten stores, that Walmart Human Resource departments neglect to find answers to or ignore, and filled with a consistent flow of communication that brings to light “The Walmart Way” as it is seen by the average associate and includes quotes by H. Gender discrimination issues within the stores that include promotion and salary issues reported, but not changed and not a thing of the past even with a historic class action lawsuit pending against the company and on appeal.
This story includes every issue brought to my attention by “my Walmart family”. This includes associates, more than four thousand I have worked with and the associates in our own family, six of which four have left the company in various forms and for a variety reasons.
Of interest to all Walmart associates and their families, associates alone number in the millions. (associates across the nation are reading a draft of the book currently) Consumers, 100 million shop at Walmart weekly. Retailers in search of retail concepts and human resource information, and stockholders interested in the company and it’s future. This is a story that will interest, and or inspire, anyone with any sort of, Walmart, Addiction.

The book starts with the question of what has happened to the culture Sam Walton started when he founded Walmart and the way the associates became so dedicated to the company.
It continues with our family being introduced to Walmart in 1990 and the experience of being a consumer in stores located in Oklahoma.
It then looks at the impact Walmart had on a small business owned by our family in Florida.
The good effect Walmart stores had on her business while still a division one store and the negatives that came along as Walmart repeatedly relocated stores and reopened them as super centers.
It continues as the family becomes attached to the Walmart culture and becomes a part of the cult working in Florida.
The chapters then go on to explain, the cult, gender discrimination and the family’s acceptance of “The Walmart Way” as life.
The story continues in Alabama and a continuous battle coming from within as far as the fairness of the company’s employment tactics and hiring procedures. Steady promotions occur as connections are made and the founder’s culture continues to live within these stores and the good continues to out weigh the bad.
The move into salaried management takes the family to New Hampshire where as an assistant manager, Julie and her family find a completely different Walmart culture and what at times seems to be no culture at all.
All six adults in the family become Walmart associates in this state and numerous situations occur during which Julie becomes deeply associated with associates who use the “open door policy” but fear retaliation more than what they may or may not be asked to do daily.
Three of the family are terminated or quit for various reasons and the situations take Julie out of her district to the corporate offices and executive ranks, while arguing the accusations that the family found unsubstantiated and bogus.
Constant recurrence of issues concerning company policy and the culture were prominent, within each store issues brought to her by large numbers of associates she worked with took her into many different situations where the use of company policy was being neglected or abused. All issues presented to her were brought to corporate and executive management with he hope of resolution in the most confidential manner possible.
The stories contained are real and the accounts are true. Many of the communications can be documented and become more complex as the family attempts to avoid problems that there seems to be no resolution to.
The open door policy of the company continues to have barriers and the corporate officers run the company strictly by paper.
The final move to Louisiana is approved and the family suffers from a botched relocation and the corporate and executive officers assist Julie in resolving issues that hinge on issues resembling a misappropriation of funds during reimbursement for relocation expenses, open door issues gone sour and a litany of associates who have no way to communicate issues they feel are of importance to higher management.
Presently fifteen chapters the last of which is being written Walmart: Addiction, Withdrawal and Recovery.

Julie Pierce has been in retail for over thirty years in supermarkets, general merchandise and franchise retail establishments.

As a Walmart associate she has worked as an hourly associate, department manager of many departments and as a field manager for Walmart in four states.
She has had many meetings and different forms of communication with more than thirty-five Walmart executive and corporate officers over seven years, including H. Lee Scott; CEO and Tom Coughlin.
She has personally worked and assisted in the operations of fifteen Walmart stores with more than four thousand Walmart associates.
Her family has worked in a total of more than twenty different Walmart stores.

I have not found a book written on Walmart by a Walmart Associate.
There are a number of books: all of which are written through research alone.
Liza Featherstone writes from information gathered on the class action lawsuit and from interviews.
Robert Slater writes on Walton’s Culture and on interviews.
Don Soderquist’s book is inspirational, but again is a view from the corporate offices.
Other books published about Walmart, have been corporate accounts or are written with the assistance of the Walmart public relations department.

It isn’t an easy thing to do. Credit card, debit card, check, cash any form of money, even a return that allows you to try again.

The Martha Stewart ironing board you bought at Kmart last year and didn’t open.

Walmart takes anything back. Feed the addiction at all cost. Bring it back. I mean bring it to your local Walmart and whine.

Withdrawal as in any other form of addiction has to be wanted by the individual.

It can be as simple as being a consumer who refuses to go into a Walmart.

Or a bit more difficult when as an associate you have been through the experience of belonging to the “cult” and while fighting the thought have the eventual realization that Walmart isn’t one hundred percent pure.

Either way, it isn’t easy.

Driving passed one up in the northeast is not so bad because they are still far apart.

In the south they are as close as five miles from each other and it is difficult to avoid them.

Even when customer service is less than poor the addiction is real. The sight of a Walmart can make someone who was on their way to mail out the rent go shopping instead.

More appealing than a mall for many, the Walmart logos strike as you pass by, and you know there is a second entrance, a chance to find that thing, that thing that just could be marked down to almost nothing in the clearance aisle or on the racks.

The temptation to see what is in there? The draw of the force is stronger than many can fight off.

The feeling of belonging even while hating it can make a person stay with the company for an extended period of time. There are many different ways to belong at Walmart as an associate.

The most important of all is the first.

The cult is there for the person looking for something special in the workplace and if hired at the right store can be an all consuming experience. Years can go by and unless there is a real reason that you cannot let go of you are imprisoned in a world of fallacies that are backed by propaganda that seems real until you come to your senses and see that most of it is not real, if that ever happens. This is because a cult is a cult is a cult and believe it or not the original culture leads one to believe that Walmart is perfect.

Acceptable individuals are able to pass a drug test and back round check and have a pulse and will fill the vacancies left by the ones that quit or were terminated for any number of and stock empty shelves instead of doing the job they were hired for, due to a cut back on payroll.

The complainer, is the worker who will complain anywhere at any time for any reason, Walmart or anywhere they work. You can find a great deal of sympathetic associates for complaining sessions once you work for Walmart, in any store.

The expert is the worker that Walmart hired because they are experienced at something. Once you can get past the, I already know that stage and accept that you know nothing, you’ll be fine.

Blue Collar Elite is the associate that truly believes that they can work at Walmart and actually make a decent living. This will happen if the entire family ( and it has to be big ) works for the company and lives at the same location.

There are many forms of associate and to list them all would be extensive.

There are many consumers and they range from, I need to eat to I just can’t pass that one up.

Addiction is addiction and withdrawal is withdrawal. There is no true difference in the actual withdrawal pain aside from one kind being able to purchase higher ticket items and the other needing government assistance to enable them to eat.

One is a consumer and one is an associate, and there is a difference here.

Some how the retailer manages to elude the real story (not a corporate account or book) in all forms of media.

Anti Walmart organizations, only increase Walmart’s PR campaign (at low price media coverage for the company) it allows the corporate offices to use the media to fabricate more of the good and deny the bad, free.

Deep inside the stores a turnover rate of at least 44% nationwide causes Walmart to hire new associates at the rate of 600,000 a year and somehow at the same time manages to instill a mind set that no one can touch its illusion of clean.

Mosquito bites annoy Walmart but it has never been bitten by the associates that keep the stores running at a profit. Not yet.

News organizations…all of them in some form avoid reporting on Walmart.

They will not report, so you decide why.

Only a very small fraction of lawsuits make their way into news coverage. When it is too big to ignore, a tactic Walmart uses in its own public relations.

Attorneys who will take on the giant are few. The people that want to or need to sue usually can’t because of the cost.

They get away with so much because it is cheaper to walk away. They get away with it because it is so big and David hasn’t shown up yet.

Sorry, when I saw this one this morning I told myself I knew but now it is verifiable.
Still as the associates struggle to work "twice as hard" to keep the stores going. Now Mr. Lee decides that it is going to "add" an upscale look to Walmart.
The associates can barely handle it now. The customers are use to being treated like second class citizens and the Walmart associates only have time for a bar-b-q when it is held at one of the stores. Many even bring the kids for such affairs.
I hope they supply the new uniforms because if they intend to go after Target they need to do something.

Lies, Deceit and the Thesaurus

Day after day, the news, the media, and the entire world have become more deceitful than ever.
How many lies are broadcast in one day?
How much of “the no spin zone” is spin?
How many lies are told to stockholders, workers, citizens, and our children by the media, the government and what once was thought to be honest people in general?
Where did the real truth end and the lies begin?

Our language has turned into a thesaurus of words that change their meaning and as each day passes and lies become the norm. Use of the English Language is becoming filled with a new form of deceit.

The democrats take words and change them into their own form of reality along with the republicans and our government officials.

Extremists use the word “Jihad” as if it were some new word they didn’t think of until now. Holy war isn’t good enough as the entertainment value is not there when using the words as we knew them. As we knew the words used today, they would have never been used that way in the past.

How can they expect our children will ever know the difference between right and wrong let alone right and left wing politics if they cannot tell what the truth really is?

Daily, corporations, businesses, government officials and others use the words of our language to form their opinions in the most deceitful ways possible. Stock holders are consistently lied to because to do otherwise would open up a can of worms that could never be closed. The stock market would crash and all of the liars would lose all of their money and with it businesses would close and the “war of the worlds” could become a reality.

It isn’t the United States, China or North Korea that is causing this. It is humanity.

How do you make yourself trust a liar? By accepting the lie as truth and refusing to stand up and see that person for what he or she is.
Why do you force yourself to act as if you trust a liar? Because your livelihood depends on being able to do so and you, your family has to survive and you don’t want them to eat dirt.

Are you, is everyone a part of it in some way? Yes.

If you accept a lie when you know it is a lie you are a part of it.
If you continue on and allow the lie to live without standing up for the truth you are as responsible for it as the person who created it.

Take any word and run it through a thesaurus and see for yourself.

Our language has become even more complex than the Bible was. Our language is subject to interpretation and the spin is forever changing, erasing and adding a new meaning to everything that is said.

It is often the easy way out to ignore lies. To excuse lies. You can make an excuse for almost anything if you try hard enough.

Religion, ethics, integrity and the truth, where did it all go and is it anywhere I can go to?

Is success dependent on your ability to discount the lies that a corporation tells?
Is success dependent on the ability to deceive and spin the truth into a web of lies that cannot be detected easily?

Is it a fictional story that has come true?

“It Takes a Village” “It Takes a Family” It takes the truth to learn what is right and what is wrong. The right is not always right. The left is not always wrong.

Christian, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Atheist or Pagan, do you know what your child is thinking, accepting as real?

Liberal, Conservative, Extremist and Radical, do you know where you belong.

Your boss is a liar. Do you tell him that you know he is? Your company spins the truth into a web of deceit. Do you question it or hide from it?

Taking the bad with the good is fine, but make sure you know which is which.

A simpler time, a time when a lie was not the norm and words meant what they were meant to mean.

Short on Patience

So I am short on patience.
I admit it. At this time, after more than seven years of playing the games that Walmart likes to play I find that they are basically really unconcerned or they don't ... in many ways...practice what they preach.

A sence of urgency is so very important at the stores. So I either have to believe there is no sence of urgency at corporate or they are so involved in covering up problems that they just do not have the time.

Could be they don't know what they are doing although I still do not believe that.

An email recieved on 7/22 an email sent out in response immediately and nothing.

I seriously don't expect that Jared will ever call and when I get to the point where I call him he will not have any answers unless they are letting him in on all of it in advance.

Almost daily, there is mention of Walmart somewhere in the media. Walmart finds itself up against more lawsuits then ever before and activists are at top of the list of problems that continue to plague Walmart.
From attempts to block the opening of new Super Centers to the individual and group lawsuits that are filed against the corporation, it will be the people, customers and the company’s very own associates who will determine the fate of the aging retailer.
Attempts at redeeming itself publicly and attempts at improving its image are a new way of handling the perception people have of the company. In the past public relations and the media were areas that the company avoided unless there was an extremely negative situation had to answered through the media in some way. Now the corporate offices have decided to defend the company to the extent of taking out full page ads in different areas of the country and designing a web site called Walmartfacts to allow the public access to its’ own view of the wonderful world of Walmart.
A corporation, a company, the as big as life retail behemoth whose founder Sam Walton, is looked at and remembered by many in different ways. Sam was a man who is quoted almost continuously by an assortment of different people and associates. Opinions vary and views on the man and his legacy continue.
The book” The Walmart Decade” by Robert Slater looks at not only the Walmart of today but also has many references to Sam Walton and the way it was. The book “Made in America” by Sam Walton and John Huey is a look at a man that seemed to genuinely care about the people that he more than once said “should be treated as partners;” his associates; his company’s employees who are no longer protected by the founder and his way of “respecting the individual.”
A new book titled The Walmart Way by Don Soderqist. It is supposed to be about the Walmart executives. It talks of the Judeo-Christian culture and although it is from the inside of the corporate and executive offices it is not from inside the stores and I am sure will not deal with the same things I am addressing in this book.
The corporate officers, the directors and the executive officers of the company are business people running a corporation, not Sam Walton. Anyone attempting to find a company, or a corporation to work for that would appreciate hard work could at one time find it here. A person could take a look at “The Walmart Culture” and that person would be easy to convince that Walmart has it all and will give it all to you if you work hard and treat the customer as number one, according to Sam Walton. It seems, from the inside to be getting further away from that kind of respect and inclusiveness each day.
Today we have “The Walmart Decade “By Robert Slater “How a New Generation of Leaders Turned Sam Walton's Legacy into the World's #1 company” You really need to read between the lines. You would need to understand that Mr. Slater received his information as it is listed at the end of the book.
He did not work in the stores and did not really have access to or the ability to really touch the average associate. I did. The largest retailer in the country and the world is more than just a retailer, employer and a stock on Wall Street. America’s most admired company is a large part of day-to-day living for the typical American family. It is a very large part of the day-to-day life of Walmart Associates.
From the outside of the stores, there is more than one opinion of the company, its’ suppliers and its’ worth. From inside there is also more than one opinion, and depending on many factors that determine your position in the Walmart order of things an opinion can be valid as far as Walmart is concerned or an opinion can be an expression of possible hostile aggressive behavior the way Walmart is today.
Among the many files, policies and trade secrets of the number one retailer in our nation and in the world are the people. These people work in the stores. The people that greet the customers and the people that keep the shelves stocked. In many cases, this book reflects the very lives of the people that this company will forever be connected to, like it or not. This is the warehouse, the truck driver and the system that keeps count on all of it. This is the story that includes a factory in a foreign country that produces the clothing that hangs on the racks in the softlines departments.
This book is a written view from the inside of the stores. It takes an in depth look at the associates, individual stores, salaried management and the executive offices of this company that is listed on tickers of the New York Stock Exchange as wmt.

I really did believe in Walmart when I started to work for the company in 1998.
After more than 20 years in retail it seemed to be the best of the best where we lived.

As the years passed it turned into something that would take my conservative views and cause me to wonder why a company with so much good could turn out to be so bad.

I only wish I had been able to continue to have that "cult" feel for it.

Seriously, do you or anyone else really believe that if the associates were treated with respect that you would have so many problems?

There was a time when I would force myself to accept lies and at times worse.

There is always that wish at the back of it all that I could be decentful and that I could have lied to myself and accepted the things that were happening.

Now I wonder...had I made it to the higher levels would I have comprimised my ethics in order to continue to be accepted and promoted. Would I have sold my soul?

Public Relations. Do you even know the real story or are you only connect to and hearing what Lee Scott and the board are telling you.

It is a shame. Walmart does not lift up the best associates it has working for it. I down grades and punishes ethics, morals and intergrity to meet its needs.

Really a shame.

Do the Walton's know the real story? Are they that mean? Has Sam's family turned into the average elite family of haves that do not care what happens to his legacy? Or does the Corporate Office hide the real problems from them.

I am not sure at all how long you have been with the company or if you would understand me as I seem to have a great deal of trouble communicating with anyone at the corporate or executive level of the company.
Yes I have questions and yes I have concerns. I have for a number of years. I made every attempt to communicate but the open door slammed shut. I doubt there would be anything you yourself could do about any of it as it is all quite complicated.
I tend to be extremely outspoken and I have a tendency to have little patience for those who make the attempt to water down issues, ethics and intergrity situations.
I also tend to have trouble with communicating with those who indicate I am an idiot or who expect that I will accept any answer given without exception..

I Could Go On Forever...

It is amazing, then again I am probably thinking of way back when it would mean something.

Walmart, labor unions, corporate Amercica, etc. etc..

I truly have a tough time accepting that the way it is no one, no corporation seems to really care.

I keep hoping I am wrong but all indications say that it is going to get far worse before it will ever get better.

Frustrated? Yes.

Annoying? Yes.

Walmart, labor unions, the media, our government it is all the same in some way.

Working poor, no interest in politics, no time to do anything other than make a buck.

I really did believe in Walmart when I started to work for the company in 1998.
After more than 20 years in retail it seemed to be the best of the best where we lived.

As the years passed it turned into something that would take my conservative views and cause me to wonder why a company with so much good could turn out to be so bad.

I only wish I had been able to continue to have that "cult" feel for it.

Seriously, do you or anyone else really believe that if the associates were treated with respect that you would have so many problems?

There was a time when I would force myself to accept lies and at times worse.

There is always that wish at the back of it all that I could be deceitful and that I could have lied to myself and accepted the things that were happening.

Now I wonder...had I made it to the higher levels would I have comprimised my ethics in order to continue to be accepted and promoted. Would I have sold my soul?

Public Relations. Do you even know the real story or are you only connected to and hearing what Lee Scott and the board are telling you.

It is a shame. Walmart does not lift up the best associates it has working for it. It down grades and punishes ethics, morals and intergrity to meet its needs.

Really a shame.

Do the Walton's know the real story? Are they that mean? Has Sam's family turned into the average elite family of haves that do not care what happens to his legacy? Or does the Corporate Office hide the real problems from them.

Take a look and know that it has to be true.

Out of ten stores that I personally worked in this is the kind of thing that happened all of the time.

Blocked fire exits, inside the store and outside and a variety of sensors and alarms that would not work properly were an everyday thing. There was one alarm that went off in one store at exactly eight pm every evening. I had to be in at eight and had to shut it off just after coming into the office every night.
Some of the time the freight was so bad you couldn’t walk down a back hall if there had been a fire at least a few associates would have been toast.

As far as icy parking lots, most lots out front were okay most of the time but I remember ice skating without skates at one store when I had to go to a trailer to look for an item a customer wanted.

There were a number of bomb scares in a couple of stores, actually in one district it was happening more than once a day and when it became a daily occurrence they stopped telling us about the calls. It was an un-needed interruption for the associates and ruined the shopping experience for the customers. I am sure glad that a real bomb didn’t eventually make its way into the store.

Some stores have no loss prevention. Some don’t even have a rent-a-cop.

When it gets to the point of not telling anyone that a bomb scare is being called into the store it is bad. Okay, I know that some dope might want to cause a problem and make a fake call, but I cannot see why the store would chance any of it.

I also have no idea of why I was never called back when I called the corporate office to find out how they could allow something like that to happen. Okay I was stupid. I stayed in the store and didn’t let it bother me.

Okay the stores didn’t blow up, but if it did, boy, what a mess.

Packages go into the stores all the time. At the customer service desk and in customer carts because many of the people greeters do not stop the people bringing them in or do not see them, I’ve stopped some, I am sure not all of them.

Back packs are carried in by associates and by customers every day in some stores.

I wonder if they have a no hire list for terrorists, one like they put me on because I asked too many questions about company policy and ethics.

It is as easy as can be to bring anything into a Walmart and leave it behind.

In most stores you can walk right into the back stockrooms and maybe, and that is a big maybe, someone will ask about it.

Seriously, it is a terrorist’s heaven. After all who is going to find out?

I worry. Not all of the time. I forgot about it for a while until I started to hear about the bombings again.

Considering Lee Scott will not answer my questions about this why doesn’t someone else ask him? Possibly he has an answer?

It would be wonderful if Walmart found a way to save money and it didn’t end up in Lee Scott’s pocket.

This would be a big one for him. As much as the illusion of clean continues on and on, I doubt that the stock or the prices are going to change much unless the stock goes down and the prices go up.

Seriously the quality in gm is bad but the food is worse, when there was some quality in the fresh departments they found a way to stop it in favor of a lower quality and lower pay for inexperienced workers at the same price, now all of it leaves a lot to be desired and the stock cannot go anywhere because the illusion of clean is wearing off little by little.

When I first started with Walmart I worked in division twenty-four, meats & seafood.
The meat was fresh cut but the grade was select, which is a notch down from most supermarkets, who offer choice as a rule.
Now the meat has been labeled select or better in most stores which as far as I am concerned is a bunch of rubbish.

I worked in a meat department for a number of years in the seventies and eighties. Red meat had blood. This pre-packed meat Walmart carries has red water added.

While Walmart excluded meat cutters in favor of pre-packed meats and avoided unionizing and the pay that goes with paying for the knowledge of the meat cutters, they worked on once again the illusion of clean or the illusion of what pre-packed meat is.

First the mark up.

It was okay to attempt to keep a gross margin of 24% going when you had to pay the cutters and yes, the meat was select but it was trim and was really of fairly good quality.
It all turned into a matter of paying the price for the pre-cut meats while talking the customers into believing that they were getting VALUE buying it.

Just as in the late seventies when chicken parts went to chill pack in every store you went to the customers had to eventually accept it because they had no choice.

I always bought my meat where I worked but that stopped soon after Walmart started to bring in pre-cut meats. The quality is not controlled and the price is spiraling to where it is better to buy good quality meat elsewhere for the price.

Select plus water is equal to the price of all meat, fresh cut and a higher quality.

Stew beef at Walmart averages 3.39 a pound for select plus water. I can get choice no added water for the same or less at a store that will not lose quality for profits.

All fresh items at Walmart have gone steadily down in quality. Deli items such as salads are now required to weigh more … the good brand of macaroni salad they once had hasn’t gone up in price but the quality has gone down. Pre-pack, pre-pack and do it “The Walmart Way” over cook it, add water, don’t worry the customers are brainwashed into believing it is as good as what you make at home.

The hoagies, sub sandwiches and salads that once were fresh are a reasonable facsimile but are far from good. Probably why Walmart is renting to Blimpie Subs and Mc Donalds more. The subs are made from pre-packed low grade deli meats and they wouldn’t know a real Italian Sub if you brought them to an Italian Deli and showed it to them.

The consumer expects and gets less at their local Walmart Supercenter.

It is one thing to wear a cheap pair of shoes, it is another thing to eat meat that is filled with water and preservatives.

The fruit is mealy to say the least and I wouldn’t take the chance on most of it. The honeydews will rot in their bin and the fruit flies in the back room probably are the best source of nutrition if they make it to the bakery donuts that come in frozen, at your local Walmart Supercenter.

They have destroyed a good thing and Lee Scott continues to line his pockets. They never knew how to run a real deli and never will. They will funnel the customers to the areas and teach them that low quality items will keep you alive and charge too much for the low quality that they are putting in the cases until they need no one to do the work and then they will be happy because they have brainwashed the customers into believing they are getting something good when they pay what is actually a very high price for the quality they are receiving.

Dry grocery might be okay and I say might because there is no guarantee that Walmart Corporate haven’t told them to lower their quality for Walmart.

Years ago in frozen food I was told that a Specific Brand of Ice Cream was producing a lower quality ice cream for Walmart. Actually two lower quality items. The lowest was the same but had more air in it.

What you see, what you get and what you are brainwashed into believing are all different.

Okay, capitalists would say that they are only running a business. Cheap quality in the general merchandise in a throw away society is one thing.

Feeding your family low grade food is something else.

Getting ripped off paying the same for water and meat is not right.

Quality? Walmart? The two just do not go together.

I say help Winn Dixie out of bankruptcy tell Albertsons Way To Go tell Target don’t do it, and tell Walmart that you will not feed your family the products they are selling.

Walmart is surviving on food sales. They are doing a phenomenal business on the food side of the store. It is the illusion of saving you money. It is the illusion of clean. It is hedging its bet that the American Consumer will continue to be lazy and do all of its shopping at their local Walmart Supercenter.

I shopped at REAL FOOD STORES even while I worked at Walmart and wanted to kick myself when I did buy something at the stores food side.

Water is usually in aisle ten. But you can find some in the meat case at your local Walmart Supercenter and Stew Meat…select with water in it is only an average of 3.39 a pound.

I just cannot seem to explain it. It could be that it is unimportant now but will be looked at in the future and understood.It really annoys me.Yes, I know what all of it looks like.Sour Grapes.It could be looked at that way but seriously all of what happened was only a side effect of what had been going on for a long time and finally hit.Frustrating? The frustration is all around. It make no difference and I have to accept that our elected officials are what they are and that isn’t good.

Our President Thank God is Strong and putting up a good fight for our country and against the terrorists that exist in this world. Against the explosives and the suicidal maniacs out there who many seem to think would be better served by therapists offering up reasoning and love.

The frustration continues and many years later I have no choice but to open my eyes to the reality that our country is not what it should be. It is not much different than it was in the seventies and eighties except the actual working poor have gathered resources and our family is no different.

Sure over the years we could have split up and went out there on our own and I have serious doubts that we would be as well off as we are, even though there are still problems.

Our government, the politicians dabble in things like health care, labor, laws and actually not much of anything changes.

In my lifetime I have seen things and I have ignored what did not hit home. Can any of our elected officials see more or attempt to do more with situations that they have not lived through?

In my lifetime I have been in situations that only by the grace of God I was allowed to take care of.

In my lifetime I have been able to take care of the most important things that our family had to deal with but did nothing to make it better for anyone else and it is now coming back, oh so quietly and reminding me that nothing has changed.

I tire of seeing the world look at the US as something it really isn’t. I tire of the old fashioned red tape that allows some to cut it and others to be strangled by it.

I tire of the waste of time, energy and see that the priorities that our government should look at are being ignored while our politicians argue over cover operatives that were not covert.

I sincerely feel down because there is no one to do the research and work and as tired as I am have no idea of what the answer is.

Terrorism lives everywhere. It is down the street. It is in other countries. It is a Muslim extremist and it is a sexual predator.

Terrorism is not being able to find health care, and watching your children make the attempt to find it without getting government assistance.

Terrorism is allowing your grandchild to walk down the street unattended.

Terrorism is getting no answer to any relevant question you have.

Terrorism is the politicians wasting their time and spending the money that could have paid the doctor.

Terrorism is the media and the repeated issue of all of it with no one actually seeing what is going on.

Terrorism is the email auto response that only means that no one will see the message.
If the message is read it will be answered by someone who is only doing so to justify a pay check.

No one cares.

Fighting anything is a timely matter that the average wage earner hasn’t the time or energy to continue fighting.

The losses are the children and their children continuing to survive through all of it only when someone somewhere takes pity on their plight.

Seriously, if you can’t get it into the media forget it and if you do you had better stay with it, pound on it, and not let up or they will forget it.

Our politicians have become media entertainment for the privileged few who have the time and money to watch.

I just didn’t realize it was going on for all this time. It really hasn’t changed a bit.

For some reason as your income grows in the smallest way, you tend to forget the way it was. It hasn’t changed. I changed and even though it was a small change it was enough to allow me to forget.

The unions are no better.Calls to any labor union result in NO communication.There is no way to win over anyone when they will not answer a call.Maybe they are working together.The union gets a cut on supplies.I don't know...I do know it is older than getting old.Unions will not help...daily they prove they were never worth anything and still are not worth anything.1984 strike against Pathmark local 464A the contract was ratified because we needed to live...if I remember right.They sold us out.They gave it away.At least we got a paycheck and could take care of our families once we went back in.It's more than twenty years since and they are still going down.

Priced similar to choice in other supermarkets.

Deli...
Cold salads were pretty good.
They had to change the recipes so now the macaroni salad is soggy. Over cook the pasta and more water will be held and that will make it heavier. More pounds, less quality costs more.

Stay away from Master Chef Coffee if you are looking for a decent coffee don't buy it...this is not a coffee that is good anyway...it has a terrible aftertaste.

The quality of the meats, the quality of the deli, all of the produce is in question and the bakery seldom bakes anything.

If they can get you hooked you will keep buying the low quality food offered.

Go to a different store for fresh foods.

Dry grocery might be okay. The fresh departments are in question. I would trade one Starbuck Ice Coffee for a large can of Master Chef Coffee.

There is so much dirt that even pouring bleach directly on the dirt would not get it.

You can be reimbursed for corporate expenses without reciepts...I know they reimbursed me for relocation expenses through the Walmart associates critical need trust fund...no reciepts so they thought that the WalMart Associates should pay my relocation in part.

They are liars. The magnitude is probably so much they need time to cover everything and didn't want me around to find out more.

They pay men more than women. I saw it. In more than one position.

I wonder if they would lie about that too. They discriminate. Gender was and I am sure still is a factor when it comes to promotion.

They need time to write the story for the media.
They need time to write it for the courts and have to line up the people who will say anything to make it to the top.
I don't believe a word anyone from corporate says because I know that they have no problem lying.
There is a Good Ole Boy Network where they will...lie for one another.
I am sure they spent a few minutes compiling information that would look as if it was real.
Sorry I have no faith in ethics when it comes to anything higher than a store manager and even then I have my doubts.
If someone can bring Sam back to say it was wrong I will believe it.

Wal-Mart, WalMart, wmt, Walmart, walmart?
Conservative as far as the way it may present itself to the Republican Party. Liberal when it is making the attempt to look, associate friendly.

There is no true politics there is no true association. The monster that the corporate offices; Lee Scott have built since Sam Walton passed on is not friendly in any way.

The lies and the people that are behind the scenes are running the company and its associates into the ground and because of it the labor unions are having a party making every attempt to unionize the workers.

Truthfully, they are no better from my point of view. Why? Because they are no different. The unions have become corporate monsters themselves.

Making money. Making profits. Owing money, not owing money. What difference could it make as long as you can make it take on the illusion of clean?

After thirty years in retail with our nation living off the service industries it is the place to be for any length of time if you never finished college and want to make a lot of money, if you can claw your way to the top.

Ethic...what is that?
Truth...what is that?

Politics and the illusion of clean with the millions and billions of dollars that circulate among those who clawed their way to the top.

Lie...it is okay as far as any of them are concerned. Answer a question on a misappropreation of funds? Why?

Our government gives them the ability to operate in whatever way they deem appropriate.

The stockholders don't really care as long as they don't lose any more money.
What will they do if they hold on and the company goes the way of Kmart.
It may not happen today or tomorrow but it will if they continue to do things they way they are.

I worked for Kmart before Walmart and left Kmart because of the way management was treating the associates.

Believe it or not it makes a difference how you treat employees.

Believe it or not even the ones that you doubt have any reason to wonder, wonder.

Accident in Walmart Parking Lot

As if it isn't bad enough. Seven years with the company and even though I am fairly sure that my car had been vandalized during that time more than once I was never in an accident in a Walmart Parking Lot.
This afternoon it happened. A member of management in a hurry to leave the store said he didn't see the car and barreled into the car as he pulled his pickup truck out a spot.
I was at the end of an aisle. Not moving. He said he didn't see me. I didn't think I was hurt, now I am not so sure.

He said to keep in touch and that once the bill is drawn we will meet to look it over before he presents it to the state senate.

So far the soonest seems to be March of 2006 but it's better than nothing for a start.

I am putting some of the other things aside and have started to contact the State Senators and Federal Senate on the reform of all laws pertaining to Sexual Preditors.
We have to take care of our children before it touches any more homes.

Call...fight...I have promised to lobby in Louisiana and am doing everything I can to get Cathline Blanco to push this quickly but it should be a national effort and a federal law to put these people away as long as they live.

Sensationalism is the only thing that seems to bring any news to the fore front and it isn’t really new most of the time..
Many lower to middle class families do not have time to watch the news and react to the news as one wound hope they could.

Politics becomes a blur or does not exist for many. I know I’ve been there. I can remember a small bit of time where the news was an important part of my life and then…my life would take a turn and I didn’t have the time to listen or care much what was going on. Priorities take over and the time spent at work, one or two jobs can turn into a cycle where you put sleep before anything as inconsequential as news.

Basic needs make the top of the list and the country is run by those who have the time and money to invest in themselves in a way that will produce what they want.

Years can pass and the world can turn any number of times and at the same time, stand still while doing it.

Like Rip Van Winkle waking, when the opportunity presents itself there seems to be a rush of information that never ends. Possibly it is better for most to be in that void where the world continues to turn without them.

My life I am sure is not much different than others and yet I wonder why I am drawn to the controversies that go on daily, when like others I seriously feel I will not be able to break through to make more than one person understand.

Frustration is high and it is evident on a daily basis when you make every attempt to communicate a thought that you know is relevant but ignored because it is not important to those that run the media, the news, and the world.

Communication is what it is. The thought process is hard to explain at times.
Our country listens to news, reads news, blogs news and posts numerous stories everywhere. I do it all the time and except the occasional answer to a post or the occasional inquiry about a comment or article I have written the world continues to go on and on as it has but with more methods of writing articles that the news media will ignore and possibly for the better.

All My Children…and why am I here? Why, am I where I am at this time and this place? Is it by choice, or because that is the way it is supposed to be?

Pre determined and I am not sure I like it. Pre determined and can I actually change the outcome? Do I want to change the outcome?

My family is not, I would think, not much different from others. Still I can not help but wonder why it is what it is. I tend to feel as if for some reason I have been the driving force in a number of lives that those lives may have been better off without me.

I am not wealthy in a monetary sense. It is not my money that keeps us together. Still as the years pass and I look around me, us, I wonder if we are the average family making every attempt to be more or if we are an unusual family wanting more than we can ever have.

Fifty two years and my life revolved around family, always. Mom and Dad, were Mom and Dad until Dad decided that after twenty-two years he wanted something different than spending his remaining years with Mom.

A struggle to understand, a struggle to find a lifestyle and a path that would not destroy the small amount of dignity, not money, my mother had left. There wasn’t much she could do and I can remember her battle to hold herself up and to regain the confidence she once seemed to present in an unbending and unending fashion.
The stories she told were of the Great Depression and her family. The stories he told…he really didn’t tell much. There was the Navy, there was a story behind that…what a story! Not a hero and more of a coward and I still wonder about all of it at times why tell a story of cowardice at all?

My life has taken a number of turns and I imagine is not much different than the lives of others. I see no unique situation or experience that makes me different from others and sure there are others, who like my self are looking for the something that is missing.

A series of set backs and a series of moves forward all along with a sincere feeling that there would be, there could be something more important ahead.

Looking back at a life that seems at times not to be my own and wondering if the shadows of the past will continue to haunt today, tomorrow and the years to come. Looking, seeking and seriously wondering if my today’s, are the yesterdays of someone else who started living in a different time and place.

The relation of being a mom and a wife the way it should have been as to what it turned out to be. Was it mom’s words, or the words of others that allowed me to justify the things I did that I now see as mistakes.

So many prayers answered in so many different ways. So many prayers that I wish were not answered the way that they were.

Childhood, religion, family, work, and a long line of dreams that I gave up on repeatedly and that I eventually accepted were not to be mine to live.

Recent television ads for financial services are aired in song. Mr. Bigstuff…whodoyouthinkyouare…Mr. Bigstuff…retirement? It is a laugh. I see no end and can only hope my children can find enough of a small life insurance policy to bury me.

All a part of the past and yes, almost everyone does change through the years but when does it end? My mother’s dreams and the dreams of others cut short and not realized, why?

Writing, politics, the working poor, any series of subjects that have been a part of me when I had the time to think about it and the never ending wish that it would all go away at the same time.

Survivor.

Really, who is a survivor?

A TV show is more interesting than a real life? I didn’t watch it so I wouldn’t know.

The Apprentice.

A TV show that only shows me that all of the work, all of the experience, all of the time invested in everything I’ve worked for can be over shadowed by some kid that has entertainment value.

CEOs corruption and corporations that could care less about the people that allow them to be what they are.

CEOs that lie to stockholders and workers every day hide atrocities and all of it happening because of the stock that they sell daily and a lie to one is a method or a strategy to others.

Retail stocks, they sell more than merchandise, they sell their strategy and it isn’t always the truth they sell.

Communications, health care and the list goes on and on.

Overload of opinion that means nothing.

An overload of thoughts that go no where because it is not entertainment, it is not newsworthy and is not something many have time for.

Working, physically working, physically going to a building every day in order to occupy a mind that is forever searching for an answer that cannot be pulled up on Google or Yahoo and that is bigger than the internet is scary.

Dreams that are connected to life at times taking the form of nightmares that no one would care to watch or know about. Nightmares that make no real sense even when dissected but that at times are better than being awake.

I Thought I was being ethical by following company policy, but it eventually was not enough to stop them from terminating me.

Small issues piled up get bigger and bigger.

Large issues need only be ignored.

SMART SYSTEM EMAIL USE.

I reported the personal use of the system. Store to store, assistant managers attached in a romantic relationship that destroyed at least one marriage.

Nothing was done about it and that assistant manager is being groomed for a promotion. I don’t know about his girlfriend I wasn’t working with her.

The entire time I worked for Walmart I followed company policy on emails and never used the system for my personal communications.

Even phone calls were placed through a calling card or from a phone booth.

BOGUS COACHINGS

It isn’t easy to work with a liar.

When there is a reason, a legitimate reason for a coaching. If I did something wrong and was told. If the coaching actually happened it would be one thing. But to send something through the company system that never happened and to actually have another member of management verify that it did is one reason I eventually was terminated.
I knew too much and found out too much. They didn’t want me around because I treated the hourly associates as intelligent persons. They didn’t want to face the truth so they lied.
There is no way to make it right.

Lies are everywhere at Walmart.
Systems kick out reports that truly mean nothing because the data that is put in (aside from the actual sales at the registers, and some of that is lies) is bogus much of the time.
Company policies on operations are usually ignored because there is not enough qualified help running the show.
Inventory counts, pick lists, attendance tracking, schedules, personnel records, cbls, meetings, training, sanitation logs, temperature logs, swas meetings, receiving guidelines, dsd deliveries, open door issues, gender discrimination, I could go on.
Lies everywhere you look and as a member of management are expected to accept or ignore.
For associates, write ups that never take place are sent to Bentonville. It is the verbal form and does not have to be shown to the associate in order to go into the system.

Store managers that were terminated for paying associates off the books in order to make the payroll look as if it is in line are hired back and groomed for great things.

Liars fit in the Walmart culture as it is today. Store managers, management, forgiven the wrongs that hurt the associates in some form are greeted with open arms and promoted.

Those who tell of ethics problems and issues of integrity that have gone wrong are ostracized or terminated.

My last Store Manager Was a Liar.

I know because he lied about me, he lied to me, and he denied lying.

Reporting anything negative allows them to list a reason of making negative comments about the company as a legitimate reason for termination.

Preditors and Our Government

I was mortified again watching The O'Rielly Factor when the state of Louisiana almost made the friendly list for sexual preditors.
I wrote to Blanco's Office this morning.
Across the United States we all need to do something to have the law changed to put these preditors behind bars and keep them there.
Registered pedifiles slip through the cracks. Children are molested and killed and the only way to change it is to put up one heck of a fight.
If you don't vote, if you don't watch the news, if you care about nothing else, care about our children.
Call, email, write, fight the good fight for our kids.

Because of the response for the pre publication copy of my book I am going to force myself to start the editing process again.
I am glad I had saved most of it but sure wish that the edited version was saved when the computer crashed.
My book proposal was only three chapters and because of that they are the only chapters I will not have to fight with.

I saw another associate I worked with today. I won't say where. I wouldn't want any at Walmart to know that she even talked to me.
She didn't know I was gone. She is a good person, I hope they don't do her like they did me.
I hope she has it in her to make it. Then again, what it takes to make it at Walmart is almost impossible if you are a good person.
I know how I could have made it and I just couldn't be that kind of a person.
I miss people like her and dedicate the book to those associates still working there.

Because they are the way they are.
Tom Coughlin, Bowen, anyone they take a dislike to or anyone that can prove them to be unethical or a bunch of liars.
Seriously it happens daily. In the stores and offices all over the United States.
They cannot admit they failed in any way unless it takes the look of,"Oh my goodness I would never!!"
They didn't fire Bowen over the transcripts. They fired him because he opened what they saw as a can of worms!
Tom Coughlin I am sure was getting to close to finding something out that they didn't want him to. They didn't want him around and seriously he probably didn't want to be there anymore.

A Generation of Liars

During my lifetime it could be more than one generation but just as felons and criminals, and addicts are now accepted as at times heroes when you look at it, liars are at the top of the list of leaders.

Of course it depends on what you, yes you, consider to be a lie.

I am speaking of real lies. Verifible. Proven.

Not the WDMs everyone says didn't exist...because they did and do.
We just waited so long to do anything they moved them so they wouldn't be found.
You have to be real when searching for the liars. It can't be a wish. It can't be a want. It has to be a real lie. Real lies are often the hardest to prove and when you know it is a lie you will have and enormus fight trying to prove it because they are so good at telling them.

I have retired from retail temporarily and will only consider offers that are made from ethical and moral corporations and companies.

Non Union or Union companies are both acceptable but must have a corporate and management policy of being ethical and dealing with all situations with Integrity.

Seriously, I am very tired of the lies and attitudes that are a part of Corporate America and the cause of the larger part of the problems that I see as typical in the retail industry.

I am looking for a company that more than likely does not exist at this time.

One where the workers are respected and are treated as they should be and not expected to hide or run away from situations that are caused by unethical or unmoral issues. The issues of sort that surround many hard working American Families and make it difficult if not impossible to work in an atmosphere where truth and failure can be tolerated.

My experience has led to sales increases of up to sixty one percent in my areas of responsibility and customer service issues have never been a cause for concern under my watch.

I have worked as an hourly associate in many different capacities and have been a manager of up to five hundred employees in big box retail environments.

At this time I am only interested in executive or corporate positions again with a company that will allow me to be myself and not insist that I give up integrity for profits that will eventually be lost in the mist of an associate base that is not happy with the company they work for.

If it is possible to be real with your company and not a requirement that lies are the larger part of the management I may be interested.

I cannot decide if this should just be a blog of writings about Walmart or not.

I have a large number of articles I have written and more I have started on about Walmart. Things not elaborated on in the book. Probably will be enough for another book.

I seriously had hoped it would fade away but it hasn't. I still have too many contacts and too many friends.

I shop there, and I see and hear the same things if not worse.

Walmart, Dennis and Work

Associates are expected to work their scheduled hours in stores.
Hurricane or no hurricane, if power is lost the stores have to be taken care of by someone.
Days in advance, water, batteries and flashlights line action alley on pallets and with prices...everyday low prices...always.
If you are an associate they would rather have you stay at the store if you think you may have a problem getting to work because of Dennis.
Seriously do not call out unless you expect to be reprimanded and if you are already in any kind of trouble with management expect the worst. Especially if they are being told to cut hours in your store.
It's the Walmart Way now adays. Not Sam's Way. Walmart first, not family first.
Safety at the stores but don't worry about the trip in because even if you are trying to save your job. Walmart will not take care of you if you die in transit.
God first, family next, Walmart after that as Sam Would say. Be Safe, don't be foolish.

I am sure that as always Walmart will help where it can.
Water, ice, immediate needs for people and after seeing what anything good means to the corporate officers I cannot help but feel the only real reason for any of it is a tax write off and good press.
It makes no difference it will still be good where they help and the associates that help are doing it for the right reasons, not the corporate reasons.
To be real, Lee Scott and family are safe. Arkansas is not withing a real danger and if Lee feels like staying home no one will tell him he can't.
I am sure all management is expected to be there to pull as many pallets of water, batteries etc to action alley and to inflict guilt and threats apon any associate having a problem getting into work or wanting to go home early.
Walmart is no longer family friendly.
I hope there are no terminations connected to this disaster.
Ten months ago when Ivan came close to Louisiana I waited hours in order to get to work in Gonzales and they made the attempt to coach me (write me up) for the delays.
I fought it.
I am glad I have no resposibility to Walmart now.

I sent this one out today and am doing what I can to get them to accept some of what I have found Walmart associates hold to be true as a group.

This email was sent to Walmart. I have and if I know them will not hear a thing from anyone. They don't want to right what is wrong. After all they haven't as yet gone through the entire population of the United States for workers.

Okay, I haven't done it yet but will. Walmart associates are reading a pre publication copy of the book all over the United States and I have decided I will publish it soon.

The company is virtually filled with liars who have no respect for anyone who works for them.

When or if you rock the boat they lie until they find a way to fire you.

I know, they did it to me but I am not filing a lawsuit I am publishing a book about it.

If my agent does not get a sale soon I myself will put it out and then Walmart can sue me if it wants to.

I am tired of Walmart trying to make itself into something it isn't. After seven years of it I have seen enough and even been treated like a criminal for nothing that couldn't have been taken care of if someone would have listened.

For a while I had hoped to make it right and had hoped someone would realize I wanted nothing more than to help. I hoped, why I don't know. I would be wrong to expect to be treated with respect and my morals will not allow me to co exist with liars. As much as I wanted a career with Walmart I don't think I could ever go back to working with a bunch of lying managers or indifferent executives and it makes no difference how good the company was...it isn't any more.

Now I realize I must be out of my mind to think that this company could or would want to do anything the right way when it comes to it's associates.

There was always some kind of dirt, but after so many years in retail it was not a shock especially in stores so big.

Gender discrimination is something that I imagine many women my age put up with because it was always there in some form and you either would except it or not work.

So when Walmart said I couldn’t have the lead position in the meat department in 1998 I took what they would let me have and discounted it as a situation where if I wanted to stay with the company I had to take it.

I should have known that if a store that wonderful to work in could be that way it would continue on and it did.

Gender Discrimination
By job, pay and promotion
Retaliation
Especially for using the open door
Sexual Harassment
The old fashion kind, the kind that you try to ignore because you see it but are not part of it so you avoid the people that do or promote it, to say something, explain how it affects anyone means trouble for you later.
Seeing promotions not based on what you know but who they know or slept with.
Not all associates can be wrong about the same thing, the same instance and how it was hidden or taken care of.
Ethics
Misappropriation of Trust Funds that the associates donate to explained away as bad judgment by Lee Scott.
Interrogations, not interviews, look up the meaning if you have to. I was not a part of any criminal activity but was treated like a criminal.
Plain old terminations produced by individuals that obviously thought lying was better. Why? Because if they didn’t lie they had no excusable reason for terminating someone they just didn’t like.

How can you look at someone and lie to their face? It seems to be a requirement for Walmart management.

So I made a mistake by causing them to work. I reported unethical behavior. I reported lies. I did not except bogus accusations and I requested an attorney be present during the interrogations.

Add it to the book and or write a new one.

I will be glad to send to all Walmart Associates that request one a copy of the book pre publication.

I will as in the past hold all contact confidential. I don’t want them to do to you what I allowed them to do to me.
